Carnival organisers breathed a sigh of relief as big crowds turned out for Worthing's annual parade – held almost a month earlier than usual.
Numbers weren't quite so large as on August Bank Holiday Monday, but thousands still lined the seafront route from Grand Avenue to Steyne Gardens.
The procession was brought back to tie in with the tail end of the Worthing Festival so Stevens funfair on the promenade did not have to return just a few weeks after packing up.
Worthing Salvation Army band led the colourful and noisy parade, organised by Worthing Rotary Club.
They were followed by carnival princess Sophie Waller, nine, a pupil at Chesswood Middle School, Worthing.
A red Silver Cloud III Rolls Royce, 14 Minis, motorcycles, and a Southdown open top bus carrying the Mayor, councillor Ann Sayers, also joined the parade.
