Met Office forecasters said Brighton and Hove and rest of the county would escape the wet and wild weather predicted for large parts of the country today.
The county experienced heavy overnight rain, but there are no reports of any flash flooding.
Forecaster George Goodfellow said: "The heavy overnight rain has cleared out of the way and it shouldn't be too bad a morning.
"By the afternoon we might have some showers breaking out, but Brighton is probably one of the better positions.
"You would have to be unlucky to get any of the heavy rain and it should be dry and sunny by the end of the day."
However, Mr Goodfellow warned people to be careful of heavy winds, with gusts expected to reach up to 30mph throughout the day.
The Met Office said the weather for Sussex throughout the rest of the week would be "unsettled".
