I do not condone racial abuse in any way, shape or form and despise racism of any kind. However, it is incredible to me that Sussex Police are willing to go to the effort of releasing descriptions of an elderly couple suspected of racial abuse (The Argus, August 16).

If Sussex Police took all crimes this seriously they might actually get somewhere in building public confidence, instead of picking and choosing which ones they put any effort into.

I was assualted last month by an aggressive beggar in Churchill Square after stepping in to stop him trying to intimidate an elderly friend and some foreign tourists into handing over money.

It took the police 35 minutes to arrive to my 999 call, only to ask me to scan through a few pictures at Hove police station. After this I waited a week before the police registered it as a crime, and I have heard nothing from them since.
