A murdered man whose burnt body was found on a golf course owed £100 to drug dealers, his best friend claimed.

The charred corpse of Stefan Welch was found dumped on a golf course near Devil’s Dyke.

A man, who did not want to be identified, exclusively told The Argus he sat with the weeping 37-year-old victim just two hours before he was last seen.

The revelation came as Stefan’s heartbroken family paid tribute, saying he was “loved by a wide circle of friends and others”.

Police confirmed they are investigating drug debt as a possible line of enquiry.
