The M23 at junction 10 will remain shut in both directions until at least 9pm tonight, police have said.

A motorcyclist was killed in accident just before 4pm.

The victim, who has not yet been named by police, was found lying in the road and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the motorway would remain shut until investigations into the cause of the motorcyclist's death had been completed.

Insp Keith Stoneman, of Sussex Police, said the northbound carriageway would stay shut until at least 9pm, while the southbound carriageway would remain closed for a lot longer.

He added: "Sussex Police are grateful to members of the public for their patience.

"It is believed there are witnesses to this incident that are yet to come forward. Anyone with information should call 0845 6070999 quoting Operation Beechcroft."
