The deputy director of an arts centre is leaving after eight years.

Emma Morris, deputy director of the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill, has announced she will leave the role to become director of Photoworks, a photography agency based in Brighton. Ms Morris joined the pavilion team in 2002, having previously been the deputy director of the Photographers' Gallery in London.

During her eight years with the organisation she oversaw its major £9 million redevelopment and reopening in 2005.

The venue welcomed more than two million people in its first five years.

Alan Haydon, director of the De La Warr Pavilion, said: “Emma has met many challenges over the past eight years, facing change with open arms and pushing the boundaries in how contemporary art is delivered to so many people through this amazing iconic building.”

Ms Morris said: “It has been an incredible privilege to have been involved with the pavilion over the past eight years. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved since reopening in 2005 and to have worked for such a world-class organisation.”
