Almost one in ten children in West Sussex are affected by parents who drink too much.

Health bosses have revealed the figures as part of a campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol.

There are 177,000 people under 19 in West Sussex and between 11,700 and 19,500 of these say they have an issue with their parent's drinking habits.

In addition, local figures show children are experimenting with alcohol in West Sussex at an early age.

A recent survey of 14 to 15 year olds showed that almost two out of every three teenager asked either regularly or occasionally drank alcohol and one in ten of those admitted they drank with the intention of getting drunk.

Health bosses in Brighton and Hove are also studying how much impact alcohol has on the lives of children and teenagers.

The city’s drug and alcohol action team will be out across the city from Monday as part of Alcohol Awareness Week.
