A mother watched in horror as her two young children were hit by a car.

But her two-year-old son and four-year-old daughter miraculously escaped with barely a scratch.

Janine Young said she feared her son Jack was dead when she saw his buggy trapped between the bonnet of a car and a bush.

Jessica, who was celebrating her fourth birthday when the accident happened yesterday, had managed to leap from the buggy board behind Jack’s pushchair to safety.

Ms Young had taken her children on shortcut through St Richard’s Hospital car park in Chichester as she tried to get home in time to celebrate Jessica’s birthday with friends and family.

But an elderly driver, who is thought to have suffered some kind of fit, crashed into another car then hit Ms Young’s family.
