Tens of thousands of Sussex jobs could be lost as part of Government cutbacks, a report has warned.

The South East England Development Agency (Seeda) said public sector job cuts would deal a drastic blow to already rundown parts of Sussex.

The agency's report on the potential impact of public sector redundancies says that more than 100,000 jobs could go across the South East.

It highlights the fact that the large number of public sector posts in East Sussex means the area is particularly susceptible to cuts - in addition to the already high levels of unemployment in parts of the county.

Seeda, which will itself be abolished in 2012, points out that Hastings, which is heavily reliant on the public sector, could be worst hit by the Government's spending review cuts which will be announced later this month.
