Fire crews were called to an early morning blaze after arsonists targeted a large bin.
Crews were called to the fire in Craven Road, Brighton, at the junction with Queensway, at just after 4.45am.
They extinguished the fire which damaged the bin but did not spread further.
A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue said they believed the fire had been started deliberately.
