Her life-long dream has literally gone up in smoke.

But four-year-old Elizabeth Chedzoy is so determined to walk on a rebuilt Hastings Pier that she has donated her pocket money to the cause.

Little Lizzie, who has always been fascinated with the pier that has been closed since her birth, yesterday pledged her £2 to the national campaign to rebuild the Victorian landmark destroyed earlier this month in a fire.

The schoolgirl campaigner said: “I just wanted to do it. I do not know why. I just like the pier.”

Her proud mother Lucy, 30, of Pounder Farm, Hastings, added: “She thought it was a really good idea to put her £2 pocket money towards rebuilding it so she can walk on it once again.”

The 200 penny donation from the West St Leonards School pupil is 0.0008% of what the Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust (HPWRT) need to begin a rebuild.

People who would like to donate can do via sort code 40-23-18 and account number 12249871.

Just hand in cheques to any HSBC bank or transfer the money online.

Two men, aged 18 and 19 from St Leonards, have been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the blaze and bailed until November 2.
