How are people supposed to be more engaged in politics if they aren’t even told when an election is taking place?

Simon Doyle (Letters, October 2) correctly points out many East Saltdean residents could be disenfranchised by Telscombe Town Council's decision not to issue polling cards for the by-election on October 21. Surely town councils do everything they can to increase election turnout. The cost of issuing poll cards would be approximately 18p per elector: surely a small price to pay for democracy.
