I am writing to support Bright Start nursery which is currently being threatened with closure (The Argus, October 11).

The threat to cut such an essential front line service beggars belief. It is one of only a few city centre nurseries in Brighton and it also accepts children under two.

When did we start to target the most vulnerable in society to make balance sheets tally? I understand the need to budget and assess where our hard-earned taxes are spent, and if this was a failing nursery or one with dwindling numbers then maybe – just maybe – it should have been considered.

But on the contrary, this nursery is a thriving community with a most magical combination of wonderful, caring staff who enjoy their work enabling future generations to grow, learn and develop in a safe and positive environment.

I beg each and every reader of The Argus to side with us and stop this happening. Please sign our petition or join us in a soon-to-be-advertised action meeting – see http://savebrightstartnursery. wordpress.com

Brighton cannot let Bright Start nursery be closed down by Brighton and Hove City Council.

My daughter started at Bright Start Nursery at ten months old. She is now 19 months old and loves all her friends and carers there.

I work in the centre of Brighton and there are no other nurseries within walking distance of my work. Bright Start is a wonderful nurturing environment for my daughter to develop in until she starts school. I pay the fees myself and, after looking at many other private nurseries, I decided on Bright Start as the staff were warm and welcoming to my daughter, as well as being highly experienced.

Bright Start is an asset to the local community.

I am disappointed to hear of the plans to close Bright Start nursery. It is disgusting that the council are planning more cuts for working families with children – as if it’s not hard enough already.

This excellent nursery provides vital child care places in the city centre where I believe two other nurseries were closed down earlier this year. Let’s not make the children pay for our mistakes again and lose another vital service in our city.

The grown-ups were really nice and helpful and kind and looked after us well, and we had lots of fun. The same grown-ups looked after us all the time and we were really sad when it was time to leave to go to school. We are all at school now and our teachers have said how well prepared we were by Bright Start.

Please don’t shut our fab nursery.

It is the best nursery ever.
