With regard to Tony Cooney’s letter “Great Passing”(Letters, October 13) – are you sure you were watching at Withdean? For most of the game the ball was lobbed penalty area to penalty area or passed game between Ankaram and our half-backs.

Yes, we want to win but how nice it used to be, in the days of Steve Coppell and Mickey Adams, to watch an exciting, flowing game of football. Even in the wet and windy South Stand fans are paying more than £400 for their season tickets – in the North nearer to £500 – so they are perfectly entitled to their opinions.

Sorry if those in the dug-out don’t like it! It is our money keeping them in a job.
