A fire broke out under a boardwalk at Brighton railway station this morning.
Firefighters were called at 4.30am after smoke began to fill a private area used by train drivers.
They said they believed a discarded cigarette had set light to rubbish in a tunnel below the station.
Smoke from burning cellophane had travelled through ducts to fill the drivers' area.
The fire was out when the crew arrived.
