Part of the A27 is being closed tonight near Lewes as part of road improvements.
The westbound dual carriageway is being closed between 8pm and 6am east of the Ashcombe roundabout.
The Highways Agency is installing a gate to make it easier to keep the road moving if one carriageway is closed.
Traffic is being diverted along the A26, A259 and A270.
The eastbound carriageway is being closed on Monday night.
The Highways Agency said all lane closures will be removed on Tuesday morning.
More overnight closures are planned as the work continues.
