Hard-hitting comments by children and adults are at the heart of a poster campaign to help tackle alcohol abuse.

Health bosses hope the campaign will encourage people to drink sensibly over the festive period.

The views were collected during an alcohol awareness drive in Brighton and Hove.

Examples include “When my dad gets drunk, my mum gets really angry and doesn’t want to see him” and “I’ll end up like my brother did”.

They have been chosen to show how alcohol abuse can impact on families as well as the person who is drinking.

Brighton and Hove director of public health Tom Scanlon said: “Alcohol can have adverse effects on young people’s health and safety.

“We know that too many young people are drinking too much in Brighton and Hove.

“We also know that many children and young people are on the receiving end of excessive alcohol consumption in parents, carers, friends and even strangers.”

The NHS is working with Brighton and Hove City Council, Sussex Police and licence holders to tackle the problem, which experts say is taking a huge health and social toll on the city’s residents.

The posters have been circulated across Brighton and Hove, along with a festive season survival guide for under 18s which can be seen at www.ruokservice.co.uk.
