The relaxation of the Sunday trading laws coupled to the fact that more people work in service industries means that Sunday is virtually a normal working day (The Argus, January 21). In summer the roads near to the seafront so busy, any relaxation in parking restrictions would be insanity.
I have never understood exactly what the objectives of the People’s Parking Protest (PPP) are. What would happen if parking controls were abandoned? We would have a free-for-all. Roads would be blocked with driveways and access points obstructed.
The recent fire in Hanover where a fire engine could not approach to within 300 yards is a sad indication as to what can happen (The Argus, December 20).
As a former parking attendant I can vouch for the fact that most residents support controlled parking. It is only a minority who oppose it. Unless the PPP can wave a magic wand to widen all roads to allow more room for parking I fail to see what purpose it serves.
