Up to 800 council jobs are at risk, The Argus can reveal.

West Sussex County Council is putting the finishing touches to a £37 million programme of cuts for the next year.

Union figures have said the total number of posts lost through the cost-cutting is likely to reach 800.

The authority’s total savings target of £79 million over the next three years could mean more redundancies to come.

A definitive figure will be available next week but council leaders admitted job losses would be “in the hundreds”.
