The silverware may not yet be polished nor the bunting unfurled – but street parties are already being arranged for this year’s royal wedding.

More than a dozen enquiries have been received by Brighton and Hove City Council from residents desperate to celebrate Prince William and Kate Middleton’s nuptials on April 29 with a community knees-up.

Council bosses, who have to approve the closure of a city street for a party, said they had received a number of interested calls, and sent out application forms to addresses across Brighton and Hove.

The spokesman said: “We have received no formal applications but have had a dozen or so calls from people asking what to do.

“We’ve sent out four or five application forms and none have yet come back.

“We cannot say which streets have been asking - I can only confirm actual applications as there's a public interest in that.”

In Seaford, royalists in Bowden Rise are already excitedly planning a party to celebrate the wedding and two residents’ birthdays with a bash on April 29.
