Campaigners are getting their skates on to try to ensure Sussex gets its own ice rink.

More than 10,000 people have signed up to Facebook groups lobbying for a permanent ice rink somewhere in the county.

Since Sussex Ice Rink at Queen Square in Brighton was closed in 2003 skaters have had to travel to Surrey or Kent, or make do with occasional temporary sites.

Now members of Sussex Ice Skating Club, which was formed last year, say they are tired of waiting for councils to find a solution and are trying to raise funding for their own project.

They want to see a temporary rink established to cater for the current demand while still supporting the stalled project to build an international arena at Black Rock in Brighton.
