The mother of a boy whose life was saved by a routine eye test is urging other parents to make sure their children are regularly checked out.
Sam Budgen, of Southwater, near Horsham, was diagnosed with a brain tumour after his optician spotted a swelling at the back of his eye.
The tumour was pressing on a duct and causing fluid to build up.
If it hadn't been picked up as quickly as it had, the 11-year-old could have lost his sight or even died.
Sam's mother, Anna Edwards, said: “We were really lucky and it shows how important it is to make sure your child has an eye test.
“If we hadn't, Sam might not be with us now.”
