A cycle route should undergo a safety audit after the death of a university student, campaigners have claimed.

Newly qualified teacher Jo Walters, 28, of Westbourne Street, Hove, died after a moment's indecision on the A270 cycle route between Brighton and the Falmer university campuses claimed her life.

She lost control of her bike and wobbled into the road as she tried to avoid mountain bike rider Matthew Pagett on a narrow part of the track shared by cyclists and pedestrians.

Delivery driver Stephen Dumbrell instinctively swerved but there was nothing he could have done to prevent his van hitting her, an inquest was told.
