Parish council officials have been left baffled by requests from an American TV company to film a show where young women are encouraged to get drunk and strip in their sleepy rural village.

The makers of Girls Gone Wild have contacted Ashurst Wood Parish Council with plans to produce an episode in the community near East Grinstead.

The controversial show, which usually operates in college towns across America during spring break and Mardi Gras, is heading to Britain for a new series this summer.

Ashurst Wood was contacted by the show's makers after several villagers voted for the programme's bus tour to stop off there while organisers have also said they hope to come to Brighton and Hove.

Landlady Dawn Jerman from the Three Crowns pub in Ashurst Wood said there would be uproar if the controversial show came to the village.

Organisers plan to film the tour for two months before broadcasting it on Sky Box Office.
