As I prepare for the journey to London today to join the austerity protests, I can’t help but wonder if I will step off the train with my banner in hand and my desire for change, only to find a city and country that has gone about its business and conceded defeat.

I can’t help but wonder why society fails to understand that “united we stand, as individuals we fall” is more than just a saying.

What needs to happen for us to unite as a country and say enough is enough? When are we going to realise that political business-as-usual can no longer be tolerated? When will we march down the avenues of every city in this country and demand real change, not lip service?

Am I the only one furious about that fact that we, the people, are burdened with bailing out the Government, banks and the elite of society while they continue to spend unhindered? Bonuses are being doled out like candy and yet politicians are ready to look me in the face and tell me they understand my hardships.

I am left aghast when I debate with someone about the cuts and they passionately tell me that this is what must be done to get us out of this mess. I say, why us? Why not them? Why not have those that dug this hole pay for it themselves?

My question for readers is: why don’t you care? Why don’t you act? Why do you go about your lives doing nothing?

This Government is a sham and they have lead the nation to believe that this is what needs to be done.

I refuse to agree.
