I had a lovely quiet weekend making nine jars of marmalade and cheering on Brighton and Hove Albion (via BBC Radio Sussex) to win 4-2 away at Bristol Rovers. I also did a few errands by bus (four miles - thank you Roger French!) and on foot (three miles).

I had planned to cycle 18.5 miles to work this morning. I woke at 5.30am, with the wind howling - apparently south-westerly force 6-8, gusting 9. My husband, a seasoned cyclist and sailor, muttered darkly "Only an idiot would cycle to Worthing in this."

So it was back to the Brompton/train/Brompton combo. I bumped into old pal and fellow Albion season ticker holder Ian Lowrie, joint chief executive of Adur District and Worthing Borough Councils, at Brighton Station. He had just sponsored me so was pleased to see some evidence.

Then it was back to Brighton by bike/train/bike for afternoon meetings, and then a quick ride home, shower, change and into town by bus for supper at my mother's favourite Italian restaurant, Pinocchio, followed by Yes, Prime Minister at the Theatre Royal. It was good, although I do agree with Tim Ridgway's Argus review last week. We went home again by bus.

Our party of three agreed that bus travel in Brighton and Hove is excellent.

Tomorrow I am in London all day on NHS Confederation and Mental Health Network business, so the only challenge will be getting up in time to catch the 6.38am from London Road Station.

Thank you to all the kind people who have sponsored me so far. If you would like to make a donation to help children affected by the floods in Pakistan, please click HERE
