Local residents and community groups enjoyed a celebration of healthy activities at a community open day at Cornerstone Community Centre last Saturday.

The Brunswick and Regency Neighbourhood Action Group hosted the event which showcased the work of community groups active in the area.

Groups displaying their work included Pathways to Health, Working 50 Plus, Lansdowne Area Residents Association, Impact Initiatives’ Brunswick Older People’s Project and Friends of St Anns Well Gardens. The Alcohol Brief Intervention service promoted its work and everyone enjoyed a buffet prepared by local social enterprise DINE! which is based at Brighton Housing Trust.

The event coincided with the monthly arts and crafts market held at Cornerstone Community Centre which provides a much loved venue for dozens of community groups and their activities.

Among the visitors were a number of local politicians, including MP Mike Weatherly and local councillors Paul Elgood and David Watkins , all of whom commented on how much had been achieved with such modest funds from the Primary Care Trust via Novas Scarman.

Brunswick and Regency Neighbourhood Action Group chair Liam Mandville summed up the day: “It was a great success for everyone. We hope in the current climate there is continued support for this very important community development activity and health funding which provides a lifeline for many resident-led activities in the area.”
