Bracklesham Bay had to be closed after fluorescent lighting tubes were washed up along the coastline.

Chichester District Council cordoned off the area on Friday while a clean-up operation took place.

Officers safely removed all of the tubes and the beach was opened again at around 5pm.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We estimate that there were 50 to 60 tubes, but as they were glass and broken, we can’t yet be sure of the exact figure.

“They were washed up on high tide and we are now investigating where they came from.”
