It was a long day today. I was up at 5.30am, set off at 6.15am, cycled to the office on the west side of Worthing via Dyke Road Drive (for those who don't know, this is a serious hill)and down to seafront - 17 miles in total. There was a nice bit of wind from the south east, hurrah.

I arrived at 8.15am. I had a bit of a struggle with on-loan panniers (my daughter's friend "borrowed" mine - don't ask). Luckily, a mechanically-minded person came along to assist - thanks Dave - and I was ready just in time to chair our executive management board at 9am. It was a day of meetings, calls, email and post.

The Chinese advise an hour for lunch - 20 minutes eating, 20 walking, and 20 sleeping. If you have half an hour, do 10, 10 and 10. I managed 10 minutes eating while reading papers, didn't walk as I had already cycled, and didn't sleep or might not have woken up all afternoon.

It's lovely to cycle through one's own town (sorry, city) as it wakes. And I never tire of cycling by the sea. There was heavy rain through the afternoon so I expected a wet ride home. But just as I was leaving at 6.3pm, the rain eased off and the wind moved round to the southwest, double hurrah. I got back at 8.15pm, rather pleased to have done 35 miles on the bike today.

All that was left was a couple of phone calls, supper, writing this and bed. Zzzzzzzzzz.
