I read with some concern about the devastation created in our parks and open spaces by travellers (The Argus, August 16).

My wife is of Irish descent and we often holiday in the Irish Republic, where trespassing on land with a motor vehicle has been made a criminal offence.

That is presumably why the UK is seeing increasing numbers of travellers flocking here.

Ireland's traveller problem is coming to an end and the UK's is just beginning.

Jim Pace MP is trying to get a similar Bill through Parliament.

Meanwhile, we can only expect the problem to increase.
