As a Brightonian presently living in Cumbria, I was saddened to read of the closure of the Hippodrome.
This fine old building holds happy memories for me as my late father, Ernie Orringe, played for many years in the orchestra then, after retiring, returned as the stage-door keeper, staying on after the change to bingo.
I saw all the shows in the Fifties and Sixties - musicals, pantomimes, even the d'Oyly Carte Opera Company, plus all the stars of the era.
I feel sad Brighton has lost so many wonderful buildings through the years. The Hippodrome should not be one of them.
In this day and age, £250,000 does not seem a lot for repairs to a building of this size and age.
There must be many Brightonians who would agree this fine theatre should be saved and returned to some form of live entertainment.
