Almost one in three people in Sussex are suffering from long term health problems like asthma, diabetes and heart disease.
Health bosses say poor diet and obesity are causing a growing number of people to develop the debilitating conditions.
The statistics, released by the South East Public Health Observatory (SEPHO), also reveal how many people in the county are dying from cardiovascular disease.
Although the deaths have declined on the whole, experts claim the rates are still too high and flagged up the high level of smoking in areas such as Brighton and Hove.
