A shopkeeper is suing her landlord after an electric shock threw her across a room and left her needing surgery for a dislocated shoulder.

Roisin Murphy feared she would die after the shock in May this year.

She was forced to close her dog-grooming parlour, PamperMePet, which was situated in Imperial Arcade, Brighton.

She was attempting to turn off the electricity supply because she was worried that ongoing floods in the building were dangerous.

The shock sent her crashing on to a concrete floor.

Unable to speak or move, she was found by dog groomer Emily Mulholland an hour later.

Doctors at the Royal Sussex County Hospital said she was saved only by the rubber-soled trainers she was wearing and her false nails.

Despite her injuries, Mrs Murphy plans to reopen PamperMePet at her new premises in George Street, Kemp Town, on Saturday, September 16.

She is seeking compensation for her injuries and loss of earnings from landlords Wildmoor Properties.

Mrs Murphy claims she repeatedly asked the company to fix a leak which was causing water to cascade down her walls in the 18 months she was in Imperial Arcade but nothing was done.

The 44-year-old, of Hove, said: "I am still in a lot of pain and await surgery on my shoulder.

"I was forced to move out of the Arcade and I am currently suing the landlords.

"In spite of all this I have managed to find a bigger and better location to relaunch my business from, as I have no intention of giving up.

"I'm very excited to be in the Kemp Town area to relaunch my business.

"The new location offers a much bigger floor space for expansion.

"Glasses of bubbly will be served on opening day and there will be a treat for all visiting dogs."

She started proceedings against Wildmoor, which owns the North Street Quadrant, in April to force them to fix the leak and other electrical problems.

Brighton and Hove City Council has ordered London- based Wildmoor to repair the Dyke Road entrance to the arcade.

It is beginning to crack and could pose a danger to the public if left as it is.

Wildmoor Properties was unavailable for comment.
