Cuckmere estuary is outstandingly beautiful and my family and I have spent many glorious days there.
However, unlike Birling Gap and Lewes, to mention just two of many areas in Sussex threatened by floods and rising sea levels, there is little or no threat to property or possessions.
As taking on the forces of nature in such a situation is so costly and often only guarantees short-term gains, it is unlikely money to strengthen the sea defences will be found.
Instead, the proposal to allow the valley to revert to its former state of a salt marsh means over a period of time we will have a slowly changing landscape to get used to.
I am sure future generations will look down from the South Downs into that pleasing valley with the same awe as their forebears.
