An overturned lorry caused tailbacks of more than three miles on a busy bypass.

The scrap metal truck came off the A27 at the Kingston roundabout near Lewes today at 9.10am, blocking two eastbound lanes.

Vehicles were queueing all the way back to Coldean Lane.

No one was injured and no other vehicle was involved. The road was still closed at 12.40pm. Police and Interroute, which works for the Highways Agency, worked to divert traffic and clear the area. Diesel was spilled on the road and an electric sign was damaged.

Lewes Police said they were inundated with calls about the accident.
