A car was repeatedly driven into the entrance of a police custody centre at Chichester.
Police said the Nissan Micra caused "extensive damage" to the entrance of the centre in Kingsham Road at about 2.40pm today.
A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, drink driving and driving while disqualified.
Firefighters were called to check the building and stop leaks from the car.
A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "It was fortunate that no one was in the entrance at the time.
"The door is off its hinges and there is extensive damage to the frame and glass.
"The custody suite is still operating as normal and this is where the man is being questioned."
