I PICKED up a copy of the new Bus Times magazine and, although I found a great number of services have improved, I was disappointed to find that the time of the last bus from Lewes to Brighton has changed.

Myself and a number of friends travel to Lewes for CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) meetings in various pubs thoughout the week.

Currently, the last bus (service 28) run by the Brighton and Hove Bus Company, leaves Lewes at 11.18pm, just after the pubs shut, which is ideal for us. It also gets us back to Brighton at a reasonable time.

The new timetable has a bus departing at 10.03pm (service 29A) and then finally at 11.43pm (service 28).

The earlier bus is too early, and the latest one is now too late. Why is there a gap of one hour and 40 minutes between these buses?

I know of a number of passengers who would like the original bus reinstated. Would you like to hang around Lewes, with nothing to do for half an hour, waiting for a bus?

I asked the question too and this was the company’s reply: “Thank you for your email and I am sorry to hear that the new later time of the last bus back from Lewes to Brighton is less convenient for you.

The reason for the change is because the bus now comes through from Tunbridge Wells.

“I will certainly see what can be done but I’m afraid, as we only change our timetables twice a year, the earliest will be September.”

I’m concerned that this is the thin edge of the wedge.
