Hoaxers nearly prevented firefighters getting to an injured teenage girl who was trapped in an overturned car.
The 18-year-old was a passenger in a red Ford Mondeo which crashed into a grass verge and rolled over several times near Seaford.
She and the 25-year-old driver were pinned in the wreckage until fire crews arrived to rescue them.
Minutes earlier the firefighters had been stuck in Seaford town centre after a prank phone call claimed someone was trapped in a burning building.
Last night senior fire officials condemned the hoaxer for putting lives at risk.
