Plumes of smoke were spotted rising over Whitehawk last night after arsonists struck at a leisure centre.
At 8.10pm last night fire crews were called to the Stanley Deason leisure centre where a workshop, just yards from the crowded gym, was well alight.
Firefighters brought the flames under control before they could spread to the Wilson Avenue centre but the workshop was destroyed.
