A mysterious treasure hunter has been digging up a protected area of headland.
Seaford Town Council officials are trying to solve the mystery of almost a dozen unauthorised excavations that have taken place at Seaford Head in recent weeks.
One hole around 2ft by 1ft wide has been found along with ten small excavations where turf has been lifted and then put back in place close to Seaford Head Golf Club.
The site is within the South Downs National Park and at a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
It's thought by the council that the holes may be the work of a nighthawker - a treasure hunter using a metal detector to help locate valuables such as old shells left behind from old World War I practice trenches at the site.
