All 5,000 charity places for next year's Brighton Marathon were snapped up in one day.

Almost 300 local and national charities have taken up places for the event on April 15 and more are clamouring to join in.

The number is a sharp rise on the 233 who signed up for this year's marathon, who are hoping to raise more than £6 million between them.

Marathon organisers have also been told by representatives from the JustGiving website that the Brighton Marathon was the fourth biggest fundraiser in the country over the last year.

Only the London Marathon, the Great North Run and the London Triathlon raised more.
