WITH reference to Adam Trimingham’s article, “We Must Do More To Promote History” (The Argus, May 11), I would like to nominate the Iron Age hill fort in Hollingbury to the Civic Awareness Committee, chaired by Adam Trimingham, as an object of local interest.

The fort provides commanding views over the city and beyond. This recognition could give the fort three purposes.

There could be an interpretation board explaining why the fort is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, with a brief history and description of the layout.

Direction signs could point out features on view from this commanding viewpoint.

It could also acknowledge Alderman Benjamin Saunders, who was responsible for the original golf course in 1908.

Who can say what might have become of this land without that development?

I doubt it would be the green jewel that stands out from so many places around the city and beyond today.
