THE prolonged dry spell in the South-East has made it impossible for swallows, housemartins and swifts to get enough mud to build nests.

In fact, I have not seen one of these birds in my area.

It may be too late, but if anyone can help by creating a muddy area or puddle – and keep it muddy – it would be a great help for them.

I WOULD like to make a request to readers who have hedgehogs visiting their gardens at night to make a bowl of water available.

The very dry spell Sussex has been going through means hedgehogs, because of their inability to travel long distances, are dying of thirst.

This, together with the known hazard of traffic, is causing a problem.
