An elderly man woke up to find his home filled with firefighters.
He had hung clothes over an electric heater and it had caused smoke to pour out.
The incident took place at 4.20am in Carden Hill, Hollingbury, Brighton.
A Preston Circus firefighter said: “People need to be aware not to put things too close to electric heaters.”
