Sussex bank customers have been targeted in a Nationwide cash machine scam.

One man has been arrested in connection with card details skimmed from cash machines in Sussex. Police believe a national gang may be behind the scam.

Traps were attached to at least five cash machines in Brighton city centre to capture customers’ details.

The incidents took place in the days leading up to Christmas last year when the city’s banks were at their busiest.

Devices which read people’s card details were put over the top of ATMs and cameras attached to film unsuspecting customers typing in their PIN numbers.

Now a 29-year-old man from London has been arrested on suspicion of laying the traps.

He was arrested in relation to card scamming offences following a joint investigation by Sussex Police and Dorset Police.

Yesterday detectives from both forces met in Poole, Dorset, to discuss the case and said they were seeking to arrest further suspects.
