A Tory councillor has been suspended after being caught drinkdriving just two days before he was elected.
Ian White, 64, failed a roadside breath test in Marine Drive, Seaford, on May 3.
The results showed he had 48 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath.
The legal limit is 35.
Two days later he was elected to the Seaford West seat on Lewes District Council.
Yesterday he pleaded guilty to drinkdriving when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates Court.
The council's Conservative group immediately suspended him for three months to mark their disapproval of his behaviour.
White, who is also a councillor with Seaford Town Council, told magistrates he was guilty of miscalculating the amount of alcohol he had drunk before he was stopped.
The court banned White from driving for 12 months and he was fined £ 440.
