Illegal late-night raves have been likened to “World War Three”.

Residents have complained that they can hear shouting and screaming more than half-a-mile away as youngsters camp out on part of the South Downs National Park.

Partygoers even demolished an elderly man’s wall – before reconstructing it in the middle of a road.

It was the latest in a series of raves on Southwick Hill, near Portslade.

One woman claims the problem is so bad that she was forced to move out of the area.

Others have reported finding human excrement on the ground while trees have been ripped up and burned.

Residents’ are now demanding that police and council rangers step in and put a halt to the weekly planned events.

It comes as youngsters demolished a number of walls in Oakdene Crescent, Portslade, on Friday evening.

An elderly homeowner cleared the debris early the next day fearing he could be sued if someone tripped over it.

Inspector Jason Hazzard, neighbourhood policing chief for the area, said officers were investigating and would visit all the homes of people who had reported the incident.

A National Trust spokeswoman confirmed it was aware of the situation and had been in touch with police. Do illegal raves regularly take place near your home? Tell us your stories below or by writing to our letters page.
