I READ you were looking for nominations for Olympic torch bearers (The Argus, May 21), and I feel one candidate should be Patricia Ginman of Keep Sussex Skating.
She has tirelessly been campaigning for an ice rink in Brighton for many years, but, alas, with no success to date.
Even I remember that, back in the 1960s, we were promised a new ice rink when SS Brighton was demolished.
She must feel very let down to read that the proposed site is to become a temporary coach park.
One must also wonder why there is no money to build a decent stadium that could incorporate an ice rink, when money exists for a large ferris wheel, which I understand is only a temporary tourist attraction anyway.
I feel the people of this city deserve better sports facilities – we shouldn’t just think about the tourists, although they might also enjoy a good sporting facility.
I had the pleasure of meeting Patricia Ginman at the Royal Pavilion ice rink last December, and found her enthusiasm for a permanent skating facility was infectious.
Please put her name forward as a worthy participant for this honour.

The Argus will nominate Patricia Ginman of Keep Sussex Skating for the chance to carry the Olympic torch on its tour around the country
