It has been an interesting few weeks for Harriet Haslam-Greene.

She has gone from posing for a photoshoot in a glossy magazine to serving in Afghanistan.

English Rose Harriet, known as Hattie, posed for Country Life magazine in a slot often graced by aristocracy.

The 24-year-old, from Storrington, went to Newham College at Cambridge University.

She then decided she wanted to challenge herself with the gruelling regime of Sandhurst 18 months ago.

She has now left behind her life in the UK to serve in Helmand with The Highlanders 4th Battalion, the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

She has joined the Intelligence Corps and is currently based at Lashkar Gah helping foreign troops build a better relationship with Afghan women.

In a recent blog she said: “It has certainly been an interesting month.”

She added that it is sometimes “upsetting” to see how few rights Afghan women have.

Fortunately the magazine ships copies out to troops in Afghanistan to give them a reminder of home.

Country Life Editor Mark Hedges said: “It is great to see a girl who is a soldier and going off to war getting her day as a model.

“She looks great both as a pretty girl sitting at home in her own clothes and in Afghanistan.”

Over the next few days she will be in Camp Bastion meeting with the Afghan Department of Women’s Affairs (DOWA) and says every day brings ‘new challenges’.
