The Argus: Brighton Festival Thumb Ever wondered how you would murder a cherry? No? Well, German artist Eva Meyer-Keller has come up with just about every way possible.

The audience at the Basement on Wednesday night walked into the room to see a table covered in neatly laid out household objects, spoons, vinegar, matches, power drill.

Ms Meyer-Keller then proceeded to hang, shoot, squash and stab the ripe fruit. Whichever method she chose, the one thing that definitely was certain was death to the fruit.

Among the most imaginative methods were encasing in concrete and a voodoo doll. But possibly the most expected, cannibalism, produced the largest laugh.

The silent experience of watching a woman calmly create a fruit massacre was amusing and strangely calming. It even inspired you to wander out of the venue considering your own homicidal urges – in a food context, of course.

Even if the metaphor of the oozing red juice, almost human-looking flesh and fragility of human existence went above your head, watching such painstaking dedication to such a random and trivial task was a good way to while away an hour.
